Welcome to the home page of The Compassionate Friends New South Wales Inc. - TCF NSW.   This site will give you an insight into our Organisation and activities. If you are a bereaved parent, sibling or grand-parent, we hope that it will provide you with information about where and when you may contact us and perhaps encourage you to come along to one of our Sharing Meetings or contact one of our Chapter Leaders.

Membership of TCF NSW is open to bereaved parents, siblings and grand-parents.  We offer friendship and understanding to families who are grieving the death of a child of any age, from any cause.  Membership is free, however a charge is made for the printed copy of the FOCUS newsletter. The mission of The Compassionate Friends is to assist families in the positive resolution of grief following the death of a child and to provide information to help others be supportive. TCF NSW is part of world-wide self-help organisation offering friendship and understanding to bereaved parents, siblings and grand-parents.  We offer friendship and understanding to families who are grieving the death of a child of any age, from any cause.  All  bereaved family members are welcome.

The Bereaved Parent Centre in Sydney is staffed daily by volunteers who are bereaved parents, and there is a network of support groups throughout the state.

Candle Lighting Ceremony 2011

Held in conjunction with the World Wide Candle Lighting. Each year at 7 pm on the second Sunday in December, candles are lit by TCF members, creating a glow of candles around the globe. Our City Chapter Siblings invite all bereaved siblings, parents and grandparents to join them.

Sydney Botanic Gardens — behind the Rose Garden (entry through Gate 13, off Macquarie St.)

Join with our siblings from the City Chapter and other families in these tranquil surroundings to remember our beloved family members. Bring your own wind proofed candles and photos of your child.

Suburban and Country Candle Lightings
Campbelltown: Sunday December 11th. Central Coast: Christmas Dinner Function, Wednesday December 11th. Lismore: Candle Lighting Service, Sunday December 11th, 6 pm. Inverell: Candle Lighting Ceremony, December 5th.

The Compassionate Friends of New South Wales invites helping agencies and professionals to refer their clients who have suffered the death of a child or a sibling to our organisation.  The support we offer on a one-to-one basis or in small group sessions can complement services that the bereaved person may be receiving from other sources. The Bereaved Parent Centre in Sydney is staffed daily by volunteers who are bereaved parents, and there is a network of support groups throughout the state. Research has shown that peer support groups are of great value to persons who have experienced loss since they offer a safe place for the bereaved to talk through their grief with other individuals who have had similar experiences.
